Alpha Tango Architecture Limited was established in 2018 by Alasdair Tooze to pursue projects which will have a direct benefit to those commissioning them and their communities. The primary focus of the practice is improving lives through design excellence. This is either achieved through the careful and considered repair and renovation of existing buildings in a sustainable and economic way or well crafted and environmentally sustainable low energy new build designs.
The practice is run by two experienced professionals:
Alasdair Tooze, a Conservation Accredited Architect, with over twenty years experience practicing as an architect, and holds the CITB Level 3 qualification for Energy Efficiency Measures in Older Traditional Buildings.
Jamie Sneeden also an architect with over twenty years experience, is a Passive House Designer and is currently working towards his AECB Carbon Lite Foundation qualification. Jamie is also an Associate member of the Association of Project Safety.
The combined experience of Alasdair & Jamie has enabled them to develop significant skills in delivering projects of all sizes and complexity, and through this they have grown a network of trusted consultants and specialists with whom they collaborate regularly. They are always keen to develop and expand this network to benefit the needs of projects.
From time to time the studio collaborates with other practices to deliver larger and more complex projects and has developed a this approach based on past experience and shared values.
Alasdair Tooze

ARB, RIAS, RIBA
Alasdair is an ARB registered architect and a Chartered member of RIAS and RIBA with over 23 years practicing across a variety of sectors from large public buildings and commercial developments to small art installations and private residences. He has over 18 years experience as a Studio Design Tutor at the University of Strathclyde. His years in practice has given him a significant and immeasurable knowledge and expertise in designing and delivering a diverse range of projects.
Alasdair’s considered and creative approach, along with his attention to detail, has been key to the successful delivery of significant national projects: from the Victoria & Albert’s Architecture for All Gallery, to the redevelopment of Aberdeen Art Gallery. He was the project architect responsible for leading the conservation works for the of the National Museum of Scotland’s redevelopment and Aberdeen Art Gallery, which both won multiple awards and the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award each time. Alasdair’s most recently completed project, the AC Hotel in Glasgow, which includes the repair and conversion of the former Parish Halls, which brought the much-dilapidated Category A-listed building back into use.
Alasdair has excellent experience throughout the whole design and delivery process: from concept to completion and is skilled at successfully delivering projects, leading design teams, and liaising with client bodies. His experience covers a wide range of sectors and scales, including bespoke houses, commercial leisure and cultural developments. He takes a leading role in advising and coordinating specialist works, which are a requirement of Conservation Grant Works. He has RIAS Accreditation in Conservation and has a qualification for Energy Efficiency Measures for Older and Traditional Buildings.
Since 2007 Alasdair has been a studio design tutor in the University of Strathclyde’s architecture department and has tutored in both undergraduate and post-graduate courses. He is well-acquainted with the design studies curriculum set by the department and deliverables required and has a passion for encouraging and developing learning within the studio environment and fosters a discursive and collaborative workshop approach in tutorials for all to engage with whether it be in a group or individual setting.
Jamie Sneeden

Jamie is an architect whose career spans more than two decades of practice across the United Kingdom, shaped by a curiosity for how buildings work, how people use them, and how design can quietly improve everyday life. His experience stretches across a wide range of project types and studio cultures, giving him a deep understanding of both the creative and technical sides of architectural practice. He moves comfortably between early concept work and the detailed production information that brings a project to life, treating each stage with the same blend of rigour and imagination.
Over the years, Jamie has contributed to a number of significant projects, including the Clydebank Community Sports Hub (whilst at MKA Ltd), the Royal High School, NMCC Granton Archive and Marionville Court Care Home (with Alasdair while at Hoskins Architects), the IEC and EICC buildings (whilst at BDP), and several secondary schools for Hub West. More recently, his work has centred on domestic architecture and supporting smaller studios, particularly in the design of rural and island housing developments both conventional and off‑site modular construction. His portfolio also includes retail, office, care, and religious buildings, and many of the projects he has helped deliver have been recognised through Scottish Design Awards, GIA Awards, Civic Trust Renaissance Awards, and Community Partnership of the Year accolades.
Sustainability and material honesty run through Jamie’s work. As a qualified Passive House Designer, he has a strong interest in natural materials and traditional building techniques, and he is currently completing the AECB CarbonLite Foundation Course to deepen his knowledge of retrofit. He is also an Associate Member of the Association of Practice Safety. Whether leading a project or supporting colleagues, Jamie brings a calm, thoughtful presence and a commitment to collaborative working.
Alongside practice, teaching has become an important part of Jamie’s professional life. Since 2015, he has been involved with Year 2 architectural education at the University of Strathclyde, first as a guest critic and later as a Studio Design Tutor. He now holds the role of Teaching Fellow and serves as Acting Year 2 Deputy Leader. Teaching allows him to share his experience while nurturing the next generation of architects, balancing design guidance with pastoral support. It has also strengthened his ability to communicate ideas clearly, engage with diverse perspectives, and foster meaningful discussion — skills that enrich both his academic and professional work.
